BORN: Logan, Utah 1950.  I graduated from high school in Anchorage in 1968.  I have considered Fairbanks my home since I came here to attend the University of Alaska in September, 1970.

 

EDUCATION:  Bachelor of Science (Psychology), University of Alaska, Fairbanks, Alaska, 1972. 

 Juris Doctorate, Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon, 1975.

 

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS:  Alaska Bar Association, Tanana Valley Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Alaska Academy of Trial Lawyers.  

 

LEGAL EXPERIENCE: Alaska Public Defender Agency in Fairbanks 1980-2005. Responsible for representation of clients throughout Interior Alaska in misdemeanor, felony, juvenile delinquency and child in need of aid proceedings. Represented clients in more than 320 trials.  Private Practice with Guess and Rudd, 1987-1988;  Rice Hoppner, 1979-1980;  Johnson, Christianson, Shamberg and Link, then Jonathan Link, 1975-1979.

 

PROFESSIONAL HONORS:  Recipient of the David Snyder Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to Clients, Colleagues, and Community presented by the Alaska Public Defender Agency 2001.

 

PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATIONS:  At Alaska Public Defender Conferences in the area of Domestic Violence; “Scientific Evidence after Daubert”; Dealing with Forensic Evidence ( relating to using and direct examination of crime scene experts); Collateral Consequences of Convictions; Firearms 101 for Public Defenders. 

 

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Service on Alaska Legal Services Board of Directors, Play and Learn Corp Board, Founding member of Fairbanks Paddlers, Road Service Area Commissioner, volunteer for Girl Scouts of America, North Star Youth Court.
